Future scanning
Attention may repeatedly move toward possible threats, mistakes, reactions, or missing information.
What’s Your AF?
Anxiety can turn uncertainty into constant monitoring, planning, checking, rehearsing, avoidance, or physical high alert. Practical support can reduce unnecessary demand without pretending every fear can be planned away.

Uncertainty, preparation, avoidance, recovery
A lot of anxious people are carrying a background process that continually scans for what could go wrong. That process can consume working memory, slow decisions, make transitions feel dangerous, and create a need to prepare long after the plan is already adequate.
Recognition without flattening
The useful question is not “Do I match every trait?” It is “Which patterns are changing access, effort, comfort, or participation for me?”
Attention may repeatedly move toward possible threats, mistakes, reactions, or missing information.
A choice can feel impossible when the brain treats uncertainty as evidence that more analysis is required.
Packing, researching, scripting, checking, and contingency planning may expand without a natural stopping point.
Avoiding a task can reduce distress now while making the task larger and more urgent later.
Sleep, digestion, muscle tension, sensory tolerance, and concentration may all change when the system stays activated.
After performing through anxiety, the body may need more recovery than the schedule allows.
Support function first
Try these in your own life one at a time. Keep what reduces effort, improves access, or protects capacity. Change or drop what does not.

Miller et al., 2023
This meta-analysis examined treatments that directly or indirectly target intolerance of uncertainty, a process associated with anxiety-related disorders. Results support its relevance while not making it specific to one diagnosis.
Open NDAF research summaryWilson et al., 2023
Across 26 studies, evidence-based psychological treatment reduced intolerance of uncertainty in adults with generalized anxiety disorder. This is clinical treatment evidence, not a coaching protocol.
Open NDAF research summarySahib et al., 2023
The meta-analysis found an association between intolerance of uncertainty and emotion-regulation difficulties. Association does not show that one simple technique will work for everyone.
