What’s Your AF?
Tourette syndrome and other tic disorders involve involuntary movements or sounds that may change in type, intensity, frequency, and context. Good support makes room for the person instead of making stillness the price of participation.

Tics, sensory urges, context, access
A lot of Tourettic people describe premonitory urges, changing tic patterns, temporary suppression, rebound, discomfort, pain, fatigue, attention cost, and the social work of being watched or misunderstood. The most visible tic is not necessarily the part creating the greatest friction.
Recognition without flattening
The useful question is not “Do I match every trait?” It is “Which patterns are changing access, effort, comfort, or participation for me?”
Movements and sounds can be simple or complex, change over time, and vary across settings.
Some people experience uncomfortable sensory urges before a tic; others do not identify them clearly.
Tics may be held temporarily in some contexts, but doing so can consume attention, increase discomfort, or be followed by more tics.
Stress, concentration, fatigue, excitement, safety, observation, and task demands can change tic expression in different ways.
Repeated movements, forceful tics, or awkward positions may create pain, injury risk, or difficulty using tools and spaces.
People may face staring, imitation, discipline, assumptions of intent, or pressure to explain themselves.
Support function first

The guideline recommends individualized, collaborative decisions and includes watchful waiting, psychoeducation, CBIT, and medication among possible clinical options. Not every tic requires treatment.
